The Professor Peregrine Papers

The Professor is often evasive when asked about his childhood. This equivocation may be due to his distrust of remote memory or, just possibly, to a casual modesty for his achievements at a young age.  As a boy the Professor was not only a regional champion in the enterprise of throwing tarot cards into an upturned top hat, but was also celebrated in his neck of the woods for the ability to sing selections from Gilbert and Sullivan while dangling from a cliff. Even today, the Professor can be tempted to leap from the nearest window if someone spontaneously starts to sing excerpts from The Pirates of Penzance.
